Reasons to change Bookkeepers
Simply because you have an established bookkeeper in your business, doesn't mean you shouldn't ask questions. Someone who is too inexperienced or too busy to handle your accounts doesn't mean you have to stay with them if you have doubts.
If your bookkeeper fits any of the following, it might be time to consider looking for a new one:
Reason 1: Your bookkeeper doesn't have time for you
Does your BAS and IAS get lodged on time? Is the information your accountant needs to get your tax done always late?
You need to work with a bookkeeper who is motivated, efficient and offers clear communication. If you have been clear about your expectations and your bookkeper simply isn’t meeting them, it may be time to change.
Reason 2: Lack of communication and knowledge
It is not enough to perform the bookkeeping duties without communciating with you about where YOUR business is going. If something really just isn’t working, they should be able to make recommendations for business improvements. You need to be able to trust the connection you have with the person handling your finances.
Reason 3: Do you know what they actually do?
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to hear people say that they actually have no idea what their Bookkeeper is doing for them. Be involved in the process and ensure that you know whats going on too.
